Texas Hold’em Is Easy?

The rules of Texas Hold’em are quite simple and that’s why it’s a popular game.  The game itself is very easy to learn, but difficult to master.  Here we’re going to give you a brief summary of the rules.

The best way to learn how to play is by finding a free poker room online.  There you’ll be able to learn how to play and also have a good time.  There’s nothing better than being able to play against real opponents anytime of the day or night.  It doesn’t matter when you’re at the computer, there’s always a poker game going on somewhere online.

First off, let’s talk about the button

The orginal purpose of the button is to show who’s turn it is to deal.  It’s not used for this purpose any more, unless you’re playing a home game.  The button now is mostly used by players to know when they should post the blind.  Texas Hold’em rules state each player at some point will be forced to pay the small and big blind.

The two players left of the button will post the small and big blind.  The small blind is always roughly half the size of the big blind.  All players are forced to pay the blinds at some point.  The reason for this is, it puts money in the pot.  Texas Hold’em has no antes and it’s the blinds that makes up for it.

Each player is dealt two cards face down

There is a round of betting that begins the hand.  After the first round of betting there’s what’s called the flop.  These are three community cards that anyone can use to make a hand.  Following the flop there is another round of betting.  The next card to come is the turn or fourth street.  This too is followed by another round of betting.  The last card to be dealt is called the river or fifth street.

There is a final round of betting after the river card is dealt.  A player only has to show their cards if a bet is placed and their opponent calls on the river.  If everyone except the bettor folds on the river, no cards have to be shown.  The cards also have to be shown if everyone checks on the river.

The minium bet during any part of the hand is the price of the big blind

When playing No Limit Texas Hold’em a bet of any size larger than the big blind is acceptable.  In fact, a player can bet their entire chip stack if they choose to.  A player can check after the flop and during any of the streets.  If all players check, no bets are needed to see additional cards.

It should be noted that when playing Texas Hold’em all five cards are community cards.  That means anyone can use any of the cards on the board to complete their hand.  When no players make a hand, the player with the highest card wins the pot.

You’re not going to be able to read one article and become a poker expert

There are many things not covered in this article.  Things such as split pots and side bets.  The purpose of this is to give a very basic outline for those who’ve never played the game before.  The best advice is to go to find a place online and play there for free.  You don’t even need to go to a poker room as there are all kinds of sites offering poker.  Crack open a cold beer and learn how the game is played.  That’s the best advice anyone will ever give a new player.
